Week one

In the introductory week of the Marine field studies course my colleagues and I went over the basics of productivity and how the ocean works. The first day was just getting settled in and introductions and after that we attempted to go kayaking out into the bay but a storm came and cut the boat trip short although it was fun to goof off with our new friends and teachers. Day two was interesting because we got to see a wax demonstration to show how tectonic plates work and how they created the oceans. After that we went to Dr. Greelys lab to experiment with the separation of water by temperature, and salinity which was really cool to see. Day three was my favorite because we got to see the scanning and transmission electron microscopes and how they work. After the microscopes we played with a variety of preserved fishes and compared their body plans and different adaptations to living in the specific niche that they occupy. Its Friday after class and now, time to fish :)
