End of a great week at UWF

Another great week comes to an end for the 2014 FIO field class. Thanks to all the students for their hard work and enthusiasm during their stay here at UWF. Together we explored some amazing ecosystems and gained a better understanding of the science behind effective coastal resource management. Here are just some of the highlights from our adventures...

An introduction to long-leaf pine forest management by Forester Ian Stone and CEDB director Dick Snyder.

A quick survey of ground cover diversity in a wet prairie/long-leaf pine ecotone.

Sunset over Pensacola Bay after an introduction to Gulf Islands National Seashore by Deputy Superintendent Steve McCoy and Chief of Resource Education Susan Teel.

On the hunt for the elusive snowy plover with Seashore Biologists Mark Nicholas and Monica Hardin.

Learning about dune formation and barrier island species with Dick Snyder and Alexis Janosik.

A day on Perdido Bay assessing water quality and estuarine productivity with Wade Jeffrey and Jane Caffrey of UWF CEDB.

Thanks to all the students, staff, and faculty at UWF who helped make this week a success! Thanks also to everyone from the Florida Forest Service, Department of Environmental Protection, and Gulf Islands National Seashore for their support and expertise!
